Welcome to the CV and
covering letter review page.
Spell-checking, formatting and check, check, check are very important. Read it over and over and again the next day. There are always mistakes to be found. (Even if you think there aren't any!)
Writing a CV or Resumé is often a minefield!
Here are a few tips and advice in order to make your CV stand out amongst the many that a Hiring Manager has to go through.
Photos.
Never, ever put a photograph of yourself (or anything else for that matter) on your CV. E.g - your cats face! This gives people a common misconception and gives away your race, age and style (or the lack of it!)
Two Pages. (One if more inexperienced)
If you are a school leaver, just use one page. If older and more experienced in the job market only, ever use two pages. No more than two. Use one if one is enough.
Templates.
Templates are good, but only use free ones. Sometimes you can copy the template before being asked to pay for it. Don't pay for it.
My CV has a gold border around the edge with gold bullet points, which certainly makes my CV stand out fom the crowd and makes it more memorable to the hirer. ("It's the one with the gold border!")
Key skills with Bullet points.
* Bullet points are great, especially when listing your key skills.
*Put your key skills at the top of your CV just below your contact details and brief personal statement.
*Add on your social media addresses as well.
*List your hobbies/interests and Qualifications below your work experience.
*Don't write down grades and dates if you have a degree and A levels or higher. Just say you have a Business Studies degree, 2:1, for example and A levels or highers. If a school leaver, then yes, state subject, grades, years, which school etc.
Less is More.
Don't write too much. It's not your biography! Don't forget to keep it short and concise. Only show the last five years of work experience. (Otherwise, It won't all fit on to the two pages!)
Bold/Underline.
Use Bold for headers and some underlines, but keep it all CONSISTANT.
